Job Aid

Shoplifting Awareness for Retail Associates

Helping associates recognize theft risks and respond safely and appropriately.

Shoplifting remains a persistent challenge at Voltix, driving significant financial loss and creating unsafe situations for staff and customers. Many associates are unsure how to spot common risk factors for theft or what actions they are legally and procedurally allowed to take. Without clear, accessible guidance, associates either overlook theft behaviors or respond in ways that may compromise their safety and the company’s liability.

🧩 Problem

👥 Audience: New and experienced retail associates at Voltix, a conceptual electronics store.

💼 Responsibilities: Instructional Design, Job Aid Design, Collaboration with Loss Prevention Specialists

🔧 Tools Used: Canva

💡 Solution

To address this need, I designed a workplace poster in Canva that combines education and practical response guidance. The poster introduces the CRAVE model (Clarke, 1999), highlighting the six main motivators behind theft to build associates’ awareness of shoplifting risks. It also provides a step-by-step reference of response to shoplifting.

Placing the poster in staff-only areas such as break rooms and stockrooms ensures associates can quickly refresh their knowledge during shifts. By reinforcing both awareness and safe response practices, this job aid empowers associates to support theft prevention while prioritizing their own safety and professionalism.
